 History of Introduced Species Into North America

 

  • Nomads brought their dogs with them when they crossed the Bering Straight 10,000 years ago.

 

  • People living in what is now Greenland brought cattle, sheep, and goats with them to North America.

 

  • People living in Polynesia brought pigs, rats, and crops to Hawaii 1500 years ago.

 

  • In the l7th century, Puritans released domestic pigs into the New England forests for food for the colonists. By the 1840’s the Puritan Pigs spread all the way to the Midwest of the United States.
